About Us

Our goal is to exceed your expectations—and we have a team that can make it happen!

Our Foundation

A 2nd-story structural addition on Gilpin Street in Denver.

Founded in 1998, H & H Builders is an award-winning Denver-area home remodeling company. We’re proud of our certifications and awards—you can learn more about them on our Awards page.

But the two most important things to know about us are:

1. Owner John Happel is a structural engineer.

Having a structural engineer in your corner means, of course, that the structural integrity of your remodel is covered from Day 1. More than that, it also means that you can do more than a cosmetic remodel: open up your space by taking out a wall, add a room, or put on a second story!

2. We're a Design-Build remodeler.

This means that the whole process for your remodel can be handled by our team.

There’s no need to . . .

  • find an architect,
  • fret about budgeting, or
  • wonder who to call with a question.

Work with our design team to plan your remodel, then relax while our construction team builds it!

A beautiful kitchen remodel in Broomfield.

Jason Williams—Production Manager

With over 30 years of experience in construction—including more than 15 years in construction management, Jason fully recognizes the value of H & H’s full-service Design-Build process.

When he was working for other companies, Jason says, “Something always seemed to be missing when all we did was build or remodel houses. If the architect and builder didn’t get on the same page at the start, it always created a lot of problems.”

Now, Jason appreciates his role as part of H & H’s comprehensive in-house team, which covers architecture, design, engineering, and construction. “With H & H,” Jason says, “the whole process is much more enjoyable and rewarding.”

Jason holds a Project Management certification and is OSHA and lead abatement certified.

Sherial’s expertise extends beyond her hands-on experience. She has extensive training in renovations and kitchen and bath design, including a certification from the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) as a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer (CKBD).

When you work with Sherial on your project, she’ll help you create a complete and cohesive vision for your home. Pedro Hidalgo—Estimator

Pedro is an estimator and permit plan reviewer for H & H Builders, an integral part of the team that will facilitate the smooth completion of your remodeling project.

After earning a degree in mechanical engineering from Superior Polytechnic School of the Coastline (ESPOL) in Ecuador, Pedro worked as a project manager on a wide range of projects—including maintenance and new infrastructure builds. He later became interested in the Design-Build process and earned a National Residential Building Contractor’s license in Denver.

Pedro’s work for H & H is informed by hands-on experience in the field and proven administrative skills—he was carpenter and project manager for one of our award-winning remodels, earning a 2023 Denver Homebuilders Association MAME award.

Pat Tierney—Project Manager

Pat uses his 22+ years of experience in remodeling, building additions, and new builds to streamline your remodeling project.

“As a project manager with H & H, I like that everything is in-house—from architecture to design, engineering, and building the completed project,” Pat says.

He enjoys being part of a “one-stop-shop” for remodels and additions and finds that the technical support that H & H has immediately available is key to completing projects on schedule.

Dan brings over 18 years of experience in residential construction to your remodeling project—including experience with carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, siding, roofing, windows, doors, landscaping, and appliance repair.

Dan likes working with H & H Builders because of the level of organization and support the company provides. “Having architecture, design, and engineering all done in-house really helps streamline a project,” Dan says. “That, coupled with such a supportive management team, makes H & H a great fit for me.”

Dan studied Construction Management at Colorado State University and is a licensed Building Contractor (Class B).

Ryan Biesterfeld—Carpenter

Ryan is from Elmhurst, Illinois. He is married and has a 3-year-old daughter.

Ryan likes everything outdoors—including hiking, snowboarding, rock climbing, and photography.

He enjoys working for H & H because every day is different, and he has the opportunity to constantly hone his home remodeling skills.

Tony Gonzales—Carpenter

Tony is one of our carpenters, but he brings a wide range of knowledge to your remodeling project. Before coming to H & H Builders, he worked in his family’s metal fabrication business in Maui.

He was attracted to H & H Builders because of the opportunity to be involved in large-scale projects through all stages of production.

Tony continues to enhance his skills in many of the disciplines he’s learned at H & H by taking on personal remodeling projects at home.
